The Michigan State city of Swartz Creek, with a population of barely 5,800, is located in Genesee County some 10 miles west of the much larger Flint. The Sports Creek Raceway, a 5 furlong harness track with 168 metre home straight, was situated in Swartz Creek, boasting a grandstand with the capacity to hold 4500 people, and a separate Clubhouse with seating for up to 2000 people. The track held its inaugural meeting on 5th November 1986 and to boost its revenue it offered simulcast betting. It had a chequered history, often struggling to make ends meet, and closed on 1st January 2014, although it was allocated 8 days racing in 2015.
